A screenshot on Hacker News claims Anthropic is blacklisting "OpenClaw" in Claude Code. Mention it, one user reports, and you get booted from subscription pricing to API rates.
The evidence is thin. One screenshot. One forum thread. We haven't confirmed it independently.
OpenClaw is an open-source coding agent. You bring your own API keys, it handles the workflow, and you skip vendor interfaces like Claude Code entirely. Third-party wrapper, same experience, API pricing instead of subscription.
If Anthropic is actually doing this, the business logic is obvious. Claude Code is a paid product. OpenClaw undercuts it by letting users pay only for tokens.
But policing vocabulary? That's an odd way to handle competition. Most providers use pricing tiers and rate limits, not keyword filters.
Is this real policy or a confused support chat? Without more evidence or comment from Anthropic, it's hard to say. Take it with appropriate skepticism.
Still, if you're building tooling around an LLM provider, consider this a reminder. Platform control goes both ways. The gaps in pricing tiers don't stay open forever. Claude agents like those used by Imbue demonstrate how far developers can push these boundaries.
