Snap unveiled Specs, standalone augmented-reality glasses priced at US$2,195, at Augmented World Expo on 16 June. Pre-orders are open with a US$200 refundable deposit, and the glasses ship this northern autumn in the US, UK and France.

The interesting part is the developer story. Snap is rolling out agentic development for building Specs Lenses in Lens Studio, through a preview that plugs into Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, alongside a new Native Development Kit. The hardware is lighter than the 2024 developer Spectacles, with a larger display and close to four hours of battery.

At more than 15 times the price of Snap's 2016 camera Spectacles, Specs is a bet that AR's bottleneck is content, not optics, and that letting developers build Lenses with the coding agents they already use is how you fill the shelves. Whether US$2,195 glasses find buyers beyond developers is the open question.
