Anthropic has launched Claude Corps, a national fellowship program that will place 1,000 early-career workers at nonprofits across the United States for a year at a time, paying each fellow US$85,000 in salary and benefits.
The structure involves three organisations. Anthropic funds the program and commits an initial US$150 million. CodePath, a nonprofit that already runs collegiate computer science education across America, acts as the employer of record and delivers programming. Social Finance handles measurement and will build a financial vehicle intended to let the program scale beyond its initial run.
Fellows spend the first weeks in intensive Claude training, then five hours per week of ongoing instruction for the remainder of the year. At least 400 host nonprofits have signed on for the first cohort, spanning organisations focused on first-generation university students, free coding apprenticeships, and regional economic development.
The stated logic is blunt: if transformative AI is going to displace workers, the companies building it bear some responsibility for managing that displacement. Claude Corps is Anthropic's direct answer to that obligation, and also a bet that training a large cohort of Claude-literate workers now creates a foundation for something bigger if the pilot proves out.
