Developers can stop building their own agent loops, sandboxes, and tool execution layers. Anthropic just shipped Claude Managed Agents, a fully managed infrastructure that runs Claude as an autonomous agent. The service gives Claude access to bash commands, file operations, web search, and code execution inside pre-configured cloud containers running Python, Node.js, and Go. It's in beta now, available by default for all API accounts.

The architecture is straightforward: you define an agent (model, prompt, tools), configure a container environment, start a session, and stream results back via server-sent events. Anthropic handles prompt caching, context compaction, and performance optimization automatically. You can steer or interrupt agents mid-execution by sending additional messages. The whole point is letting developers skip infrastructure and focus on what the agent actually does.

This puts Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI's Assistants API. The main difference is Claude's containerized approach, giving agents a full sandboxed environment rather than just tool execution within a conversation thread. Google's Vertex AI Agent Builder and AWS Bedrock Agents play in similar territory, while open-source frameworks like LangChain, CrewAI, and AutoGPT require you to build and maintain your own infrastructure. Anthropic is betting developers would rather not do that.

The beta has rate limits of 60 create requests and 600 read requests per minute. Some features like multi-agent coordination and memory are still locked behind research preview access, and pricing details aren't fully public yet. But for teams that want long-lived agents that execute code and browse the web without building from scratch, this is now the fastest path on the Claude stack.
